Let Us Tell You about Happy Walk! Happy Walk was started by a fantastic circle of friends made up of Calle Wollgård, Christoffer Collin, Evelina Bodin, Sofia Hagström, and Sofie Book. This wonderful group decided to walk from Bangkok to Phuket in support of Barnhem. Their idea is to invite anyone and everyone to pledge a sum of their own choosing to match every kilometer that these five friends cover on their walk. Since the planned walk is 900 km long, a pledge of 1 bath per kilometer would amount to a contribution of 900 bath for the entire walk. The walk started on the 26th of October, 2011 and the group has estimated that they will reach their goal by late December. In other words, they are planning on completing the 900-km walk in a little more than two months! We at Barnhem hope that as many as possible read this and want to support this terrific group of friends as they embark on their crazy and wonderful walk that ends when they reach the children at Barnhem Muang Mai. Currently available only in Swedish, their web page, www.happywalk.se, provides more information on how to support the project and also lets you follow every step and aspect of the walk. They also have a facebook group called - yes, you guessed it - Happy Walk. For information in English, please e-mail the group at info@happywalk.se or contact Susanne Janson at Barnhem Muang Mai at

The Melbourne Cup Charity Event The Melbourne Cup, the horse race that stops a nation [Australia] was celebrated in high style at Andara Resort & Villas, Kamala, Phuket on the 1st of November, 2011 – tank’s to Cristy Baker who is a wonder woman when it comes to mix pleasure and charity. Together with Soi Dog, Barnhem was named recipients of donations from the charity event this year as well as last year. Anticipation was high before the race, and once the gates opened guests cheered for their favourites with Dunaden winning the Melbourne Cup in a thrilling photo finish, one of the closest finishes in the race’s history. No Melbourne Cup event is complete without glamour and glitz and this year’s guest were dressed to impress for the Fashion on the Fields competition. There were fantastic prizes up for grabs from Paresa, Andara and Phuket Pavillions. Main sponsors for the event were Andara, Strategic Airlines, Phuket Gazette, PGTV and 92.75FM. With Garry Holden as MC and Jay Leshark on the decks the event was a great success and raised approximately 400,000 bath for the Soi Dog Foundation and Barnhem Muang Mai Orphanage. As there is a lot of people in Thailand affected by the floods we have chosen to give all proceeds to the Bangkok Flood Appeal. And so has Soi Dog. Thank you Cristy, Garry, Jay, all sponsors, all of you working with this voluntary and all of you joining for a magic event!
